The Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle is a Whitehorse based non-profit society dedicated to the advancement of Aboriginal recreation and sport in the Yukon.

Objectives: 

  • provide culturally relevant courses for Aboriginal coaches and athletes
  • increase accessibility of the NCCP's to Aboriginal coaches
  • increase the capacity of non-native coaches to coach Aboriginal athletes
  • improve the quality of the sport experience for Aboriginal athletes
  • increase the number of Aboriginal certified coaches
  • improve the understanding of the application of Aboriginal culture in sport and coaching
  • make the wisdom of Aboriginal culture available to mainstream sport

Inter school Hand Games tournament 

Inter school Hand Games tournament

On Wednesday 25th, the Inter school Hand Games tournament for elementary schools was held at Golden Horn Elementary.
5 teams competed and had fun drumming and playing Hands Games.
Several elders, drummers, coaches and officials were making sure everything was running smoothly.
One of Pelly’s team won the tournament this year and several prizes were given to many of the 30 participants.
Many thanks to Marc Senecal for hosting and organizing this great event.
Next year Teslin will be hosting the tournament !

Our Yukon Arctic Sports and Dene Games team did very well during the games :

  • 13 medals for Arctic Sports
  • 8 Medals for Dene Games

But mostly they had a lot of fun !
